Exploring Waterford's Ancient Monuments
Ballykilmurry
In a field sloping towards the Tay river, one finds Ballykilmurry standing stone.
This stone, which is just 2 km from the village of Kilrossanty, is a rough conglomerate measuring 1.6 meters high and leaning slightly to the north. It is oriented in a NE -SW direction.
It has a really nice location in a landscape where there is many large boulders and gatherings of rocks particularly on the north east side of the river. Dominating the view to the west are the summits of the Comeragh mountains.
Directions: From Lemybrien take the road signposted for Kilrossanty. At 2 km there is a T junction by a school. Turn right here. Another 2 kms further on there is a field gate on the right. The stone is found in this large field near the bottom of the slope close to the river.
