Carriglong

This Passage tomb is situated on a slope facing northwards towards Waterford city. Its passage is 5.5 metres long with five remaining uprights. The entrance is 1 metre wide and is 2 metres at the rear with one remaining roofstone in place. The tomb is surrounded by 21 kerbstones, remnants of what was once its cairn. The monument has been plundered in the past by treasure seekers with quite a bit of damaged being incurred.

Sadly, it is now one of Waterford's most neglected monuments and in summer becomes almost indiscernible due to heavy growth of grass and bracken.

Directions: From Waterford City take the R675 for Tramore. Beyond Katie Reilly’s pub (Half Way House) on the right, take the first turn right. Travel about 1.5km up this narrow winding road till you reach a garden shed manufacturer’s on the right. The owner of the business is very approachable and helpful, so do ask if you need help. Park here and walk 25 metres further up to a gate on the left. From here you can see the tomb at the top of the field.
