Exploring Waterford's Ancient Monuments
Coumaraglinmountain - Standing Stone 2
This rough shaped stone stands right alongside the path that leads into the Araglin Valley which is one of Waterford’s most important archaeological areas with a huge complex of ancient ritual and settlement sites.
The stone measures 1.6 meters in height and is oriented along the path in a E-W direction. With its location close to the track and similar to that of the stone at Treenearla Commons, it was very possibly use as an ancient marker and guide for those crossing through the valley and mountains.
Directions: See Treenearla Commons.
From here, at the top of the Mauma Pass continue on the descent towards Kilbrien. Take the first turn right which is after about 3.5 km. Follow this track into the valley for 1.5km till you see the stone on the right hand side.
