Crehanagh South

This is another of Waterford’s standing stones with Ogham inscriptions.

It stands 2 metres tall and has inscriptions down two edges on its south side. It’s situated in a flat field 500m south of  the rocky hill of Carrigfenoagh with the Comeragh and Monuvallagh mountains on the western horizon. The stone has a pointed tip and is oriented in a N-S direction.

The Ogham inscriptions are rather worn now, but were read in 1909 as “VOCAGNI MAQI CUR(1)T”.

Directions: From Carrick- on Suir take the road for Kilmacthomas. About 1km after the junction of the R677 and R676 you will see a rough farm track on the left. Park here and walk up this track (which can be muddy) passing a small pig farm on the left. About 100m further on from the piggery is a gate. From here you can see the stone in the field on your right about 300m down.
