Doon

The Standing Stone at Doon is situated on level ground.

An old conglomerate, it measures 1.85m in height X1m X 0.6 metres and has a rectangular cross section with a pointed top. Like so many standing stones it is oriented in NE – SW direction. The site affords an outstanding unobstructed view of the entire Comeragh mountain range to the east while to the west  side is the lesser rise of Broemountain.

Directions: From the village of Ballymacarbry travel on the R672 for Dungarvan. After 4.5km there is a fork in the road. Here take the R671 in the direction of Youghal. From there it is 2km to Ballinamult. At the village keep left till you reach Hanrahan’s Pub. Immediately beyond the pub is a narrow road going upwards in a west direction. Follow this road 1km to a T junction and keep right there. About another 1km on as you go uphill you will see two houses on the left side. From here the stone can be found in the fourth field to the south.
