Exploring Waterford's Ancient Monuments
Kealfoun
This stout standing stone nestles very close to the wall of a school playground. It measures 1.5 metres tall and has a pointed tip. It has a number of christian crosses incised on the side which is closest to the wall. It is orientated in a E-W direction.
It appears now the that stone will be included on school property in what look like a further extension of the playground. So despite developments locals are obviously happy to retain its long standing presence in the locality.
Directions: From Kilmacthomas take the road for Fews which is 2.75km away. On reaching the crossroads in Fews turn up to the left. A very short way up here is the school on the left. Enter the field on the top side of the school and walk along the wall. You will see the stone on your left.
