Exploring Waterford's Ancient Monuments
Kilcomeragh - Ogham Stone
Sheltering in a mature garden about 4.5 km from the village of Fews is this standing stone with well preserved Ogham inscriptions.
It stands in the peaceful grounds of Comeragh Lodge. However, this is not its original location. It is believed to have come from the Rathgormuck area from where it was reportedly salvaged from being used as a gatepost. It measures 1.1 metres in height and is 0.5 metres at its widest.
It bears inscriptions on two edges which have been previously read as LUGUDI MAQI L..D..QA MOCOI DONM.
Directions: From Kilmacthomas travel 2.5km to Fews. In the village turn left up past the church. Travel almost 5 km to the junction with the R676. Here go straight across the junction. Just 0.75km up here is Kilcomeragh Lodge on the right side.
