Exploring Waterford's Ancient Monuments
Knocknamaulee
At Knocknamaulee which is 4km south of Knockboy, one finds two standing stones within 300 meters of each other.
The stones, which are both conglomerates and have similar profiles, stand on either side of a small road.
The NE stone which is sited on a SE facing slope measures 1.3 metres in height and is oriented NE –SW while the SW stone stands just slightly shorter at 1.2 meters and doesn’t have any particular orientation.
The South West stone
Directions: From Dungarvan take the R672 north. Turn left onto the N72 and then just a short distance further on rejoin the R 672 going northwards. About 5.5 km along this road there is a sharp right hand bend which is quickly followed by a sharp left bend. At this bend take a small road to the right. About 250 meters down here and just past a sports field, you will find the first stone in a field on the right. The second stone is on the opposite side of the road up a farm path.
