Matthewstown

Matthewstown passage tomb is situated on an exposed elevated ridge with commanding views of the surrounding countryside with the Commeragh mountains in the distance.The monument is known locally as "Leaba Thomais Mhic Chaba" (Thomas Mc Cabe's bed)

The passage, which opens to the east, measures 3.5 metres long and 1.6 meters wide. It is covered by three remaining roof-stones resting on 5 uprights on each side. It opens to the east and has four kerbstones a the rear which would suggest that this monument was once covered by a cairn.

Directions: From Tramore take the R682 north. At the third crossroads take a left turn. Drive for about 3km till you see a tarmac track on your left. Drive up the track till you come to a weighbridge where you can park. Preferably, ask for permission and further directions at the office.
