Shanaclone -Kerb Circles

In an abandoned haggard (farmyard) about 0.5 km north-east of Ballynageeragh portal tomb can be found the remains of two Kerb Circles.

Here, in this remote and mysterious place are two arcs of small sized stones. The West arc measures 2.5m in circumference and has four stones standing, the highest of which is 0.4m.  The arc opens to the East.

The East arc is 2.4m. It has three stones (max height 0.25m), one other stone has fallen and lies on the ground. This arc opens to the South West.

This site was possibly used for ritual purposes with the arc’s alignments perhaps having a strong significance. Its association with the nearby portal tomb is uncertain.

The area surrounding the site is strewn with rocks and some significantly sized boulders.

Directions: To say the least, this site is very difficult to access. To get there you have to negotiate some very high fences and field boundaries and difficult marshy terrain.
