Exploring Waterford's Ancient Monuments
Tramore West
This is the second of Waterford’s standing stones to be found in the centre of a residential area, the other being Gibbet Hill in Waterford City.
Tramore West, termed as a “Schist” stone, is indeed a fine and impressive monolith which is located on the front lawn of a private residence in a quiet housing estate. Its striking feature is how slender it is and also how upright it stands at 2.4 metres in height. Its other dimensions are 0.4m X 0.15- 0.35m.
The stone is roughly oriented E-W at the base and NE-SW at its pointed tip.
Up until the last half of the 20th century, the stone would have been in the grounds of the Atlantic View House.
Directions: This stone is located in a cul de sac just off Church Road in the centre of Tramore town.
